  • 📈 ETF Mania: BlackRock and other heavyweights have funneled billions into spot Bitcoin ETFs, driving unprecedented demand.

  • 📉 Supply Squeeze: Post-halving, fewer BTC are entering circulation, creating scarcity as demand skyrockets.

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Bakkt, a cryptocurrency trading platform owned by Intercontinental Exchange. According to the Financial Times, the all-stock deal would see TMTG absorb Bakkt, which had a market capitalization of just over $150 million on Monday. Despite its modest revenue of $2.6 million this year, TMTG boasts a $6 billion equity valuation, largely fueled by retail investor enthusiasm following Donald Trump’s re-election. Bakkt, originally designed to allow Starbucks customers to buy coffee with bitcoin, has faced challenges in profitability and recently shifted its focus to crypto custody and trading services. Shares of Bakkt Holdings Inc. (BKKT) skyrocketed 160% following news of the potential acquisition. The buzz even led to the creation of a memecoin, $BAKKT, which surged to a $42 million market cap, until it dipped to $13.9 mil.

The potential deal signals Trump’s growing interest in the cryptocurrency market, following his promotion of World Liberty Financial, a DeFi platform linked to the Trump family. If finalized, the acquisition could steer Bakkt into a new role within Trump’s expanding media empire. However, Bakkt’s crypto custody business, which has struggled to gain traction, is expected to be excluded from the deal. Separately, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump plans to meet with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, further highlighting the president-elect’s interest in the crypto space.
