The viral Duolingo Owl Death meme has sent shockwaves across social media, amassing over 600,000 likes on X and triggering all sorts of brand interactions. Meanwhile, $DUO, the memecoin inspired by the chaos, has hit 16 million before cooling off to a $3.8 million market cap last night, before shooting back up to $10.8 Million

Duolingo’s comedic PR stunt, which included a Squid Game-themed elimination and fake memorial posts, has not only entertained the masses but also fueled a speculative frenzy in the crypto world. As usual, the internet has found a way to turn an owl’s "death" into an opportunity to trade memecoins. Side note, Duolingo has had top tier marketing forever, engagement farmers fr.

WORLD LIBERTY FINANCIAL

World Liberty Financial (WLFI) has seen its memecoin drop 17 percent yesterday, bringing its market capitalization down to $350 Thousand, now at $394 Thousand. This decline follows the platform’s continued efforts to expand its governance token sales, which have now exceeded 24 billion tokens, leaving less than 1 billion available for purchase. Despite WLFI’s aggressive fundraising strategy, its governance token remains non-transferable, meaning holders cannot trade or sell it, limiting its liquidity and appeal beyond governance participation. At the same time, the project's broader digital asset holdings have taken a substantial hit, with unrealized losses surpassing $55 million. Its largest loss comes from Ethereum, where its holdings, acquired at an average price of $3,300 per ETH, have resulted in a $42.65 million deficit. Additional losses include $5.93 million from Wrapped Bitcoin ($WBTC) and $2.75 million from ENA.

WLFI recently launched its Macro Strategy reserve, an initiative aimed at stabilizing its financial position by investing in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other key assets while also diversifying into traditional finance partnerships. However, recent blockchain intelligence data shows that WLFI has aggressively increased its investments in MOVE and Ethereum, spending over $5.47 million in USDC in the past 24 hours to accumulate 1,917 ETH and 830,469 MOVE tokens. Despite these acquisitions, the project’s total crypto holdings, which include assets such as Tron, USDT, Aave, and Chainlink, are facing unrealized losses due to market conditions. With its governance token still being sold at a premium and its memecoin struggling, WLFI’s financial strategy will likely be scrutinized in the coming weeks as it navigates DeFi.
