SHAQ JOINS CRYPTO🫡

Shaquille O'Neal has agreed to an $11 million settlement in response to a class-action lawsuit over his Astrals NFT project. The lawsuit accused the basketball legend of promoting unregistered securities through 10,000 Solana-based NFTs and a governance token tied to the Astrals DAO, known as GLXY. The settlement will compensate investors and cover legal fees, pending court approval.

This agreement marks the latest high-profile celebrity entanglement in crypto lawsuits, with similar cases involving figures like Tom Brady and Larry David. Initially, O’Neal attempted to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing the assets were intended for gamers rather than investors. However, U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno ruled the NFTs and tokens resembled securities and that O'Neal's promotional efforts made him a plausible "seller" under the Securities Act.

O’Neal's settlement coincides with the Astrals project’s financial struggles, exacerbated by the ongoing lawsuit, leading the team to wind down operations. This case underscores the legal risks for celebrities endorsing crypto projects without ensuring regulatory compliance.
